Default Checking oil level

Hi
just a quick question about checking the oil level. In my old owners manual it says the bike should be upright, however in the clymer manual it says this will give an incorrect reading.
Which is the correct way?
Thanks

Both the owners and service manuals for mine say to check it on the jiffy stand. Also dont fill it over about 2/3rds full.

yep run it about 15 minutes then park on side stand and check it hot. Only slightly above bottom fill line. Thats usually about 3 quarts.

General rule: If the oil stick has a swivel stick, check it on the side stand.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Solid stick check upright.
