Default The PRICE of Ape Hangers

I have an 02 1200XL Custom, with drag bars, want to go with 12-14" apes. I called Harley and asked how much would it cost me for parts and service. Well New Lines would have to be ran of coarse considering I have the drag bar. PARTS cost = 250 (thats cables and Handlebars).... But HD shock the hell outta me with the service charge. They said it would take 6hours to do and would cost $500 for the service.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; PARTS+ Service= $750 bucks.
&nbsp\\;
Has anyone got newbars and ran new lines for a cheaper cost, any help with this issue is welcomed? I have a hard time justifying 750 to the wife for new handlebars.....

I don't know how much pullback you need but you can install a set of 883/1200Low bars with 10" pullback without changing cables or extending the wiring.&nbsp\\; The bars cost approx. #70.&nbsp\\; You may have to change the brake line or you may get lucky and be able to bend it so that it fits.&nbsp\\; This is how quite a few of us with 883/1200 Customs dealt with this problem.

Harley doesn't care about you. They care about your money. If you become a Harley owner, you now have 11 commandments to deal with. Append your copy with:

Thou shalt turn wrenches

So your speaking of the stock bars with the 10" pullback? and just a quick question if I do decide to take on the project myself, how big of a beating is it replacing the cables???

Internal wiring hasn't come up. I think that takes 8 or 9 minutes.

IrishBrewed,
The cost you were quoted for the parts doesn't seem unreasonable.&nbsp\\; You can probably&nbsp\\;get them a little cheaper through an aftermarket supplier.&nbsp\\; The 883/1200L bars (chrome not polished stainless) cost $72 last December at the local stealer.&nbsp\\; I have never changed out the cables so I do not know how hard of a job it would be.&nbsp\\; I think you have to take the primary cover off to replace the clutch cable and will probably lose some fluid.&nbsp\\; Changing the throttle cables doesn't look terribly difficult.&nbsp\\; If you have to replace the brake line you will lose fluid and have to bleed the brakes.
&nbsp\\;
Good luck.

I am here to tell you that it takes longer than 15 to 20 minutes... you will have to change the brake line... I changed all the cables and extended the wiring... You do not have to remove the side cover to replace the clutch cable... you will have to remove the derby cover though... Still why would you not do it yourself... If you can not... then pay the man... $750.00 is about the going price...
