Default High Altitude Stage 1 Question

I have been reading that the 45/180 combo is pretty typical for an 883 Stage 1 (AC, exhaust, jetting).

At ~5000ft up should that still work? If not would be the direction to go?

Also, what is a 2005 883C stock jet set up?

At higher elevations, that's not the same as altitude, you will likely need to run leaner. That means smaller jet size numbers.

Elevation is the distance above sea level.
Altitude is the distance above the ground below, unless you are flying above 15,000 ft.

Will that be a little leaner on both or just the main? So something like 42/170?

Additional detail that may or may not help on identifying the stock setup is that this sporty was originally purchased at a CA dealer.

I'm not sure about the CA. models but if I remember correctly mine was 42/175 stock. I'm running a 45/180 now and do fine from sea level to ~6000 ft. I do turn the mixture screw in (closed) about 1/4 turn if I'm running higher altitudes in the winter months, the air gets thinner when it gets cold. I do spend most of my time though closer to sea level.

Since when? I think you have it backwards there cHarley....Air is more compressed when cold, and thinner when heated.

cHarley, you have 42/175 stock but I would assume mine is different in an 883? or are they the same?

Clymer says 42 / 150 stock. Must be a typo. lol mines a 96 tho.

CV-Performance says 42 / 170 stock.

I run, 45 / 175 @ 908'.

I'm not sure on the 883, but I think stock was 42/170, again I don't know about weird CA.

Edit: Just checked the parts manual, the Pilot jet is the same in CA, but the Main is different. Sorry, I can't tell the size of the CA. Main from the parts manual, it just shows that they are different p/n's.

That's the problem with having a carb instead of fuel injection.
(sorry had to say it cause every post on FI someone has to say "that's the problem with FI"
