Smile Speed sensor problem, 2006 xl1200 c

Hi folks - I'm a new guy and just learned about this forum. I bought a 2006 XL1200C Sporty in May, and noticed that everyone blows right by me when I observe speed limits (even in city) according to my speedometer. I finally got smart and checked a measure mile with stop watch and figure that I have to run between 70-75 MPH to actually get 60 MPH.

Called a HD dealer, and the service guy said it might be the speed sensor giving faulty readings because of minute metal particles from the transmission.

Has anyone had this experience with their sporty, and how did you fix it?

Thanks a bunch,

Dave in Kansas City, Kansas
