Default Timing inspection plug

Is there supposed to be an O ring or gasket on this plug?
Thanks

How bout some deets!!!!!!! If its just the set screw type plug then I think you can use a liquid thread sealer, but if its the inspection cover you speak of then yes there should be a gasket.

Default Plug

The timing inspection threaded plug I am talking about is in my 95 1200. I bought the bike used and recently noticed some oil near the plug. I took it out and found no seal of any kind. There is nothing in the shop manual about this.

Default Oil blow-by?

I have a 91 1200 and oil collects in that area as well. Mine is from the excess oil from the air filter, hard to notice it's coming from there, after a long ride the next morning there is a very small amount settled there. That could be it.

Pipe dough will work fine on the tapered-NPT threads.
