Default It's till doing it

This is killing me.I have posted before that my tach is jumping around.I have replaced the coil, wires, plugs, and the ignition module.I also removed the battery and cleaned it and checked the voltage. It is fine. But the tach keeps jumping around. The bike runs like crap when the tach jumps. It backfires and carb spits, and it wants to die.It does this usally on the highway at 60-70 mph.Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Tom

I'm sure you've already done this - but I also had an older Honda that was doing the exact same thing. Turned out to be a bad plug that was shorting out to the cylinder...

Good luck

Have you checked for any stored diagnostic codes? A bad Crank Position Sensor could cause this.

You don't....it's an 03. Check your connectors and make sure the pins are all locked in, also check for shorts/open wires in your harness and double check your grounds...again.

Yes, there are codes in the pre-'03's. They can be found in the speedo.
Here's how to check them..http://http://www.sportster.org/tech...edo-diag.shtml

Meh....maybe I just shouldn't chime in on the widgets anymore then

I haven't had a speedo or anything since 2 months after I started riding. Dually noted, and I'll remember this in the future. Thanks
