Now, to my opinion. In gear, with clutch pulled in, does bike pull any while on a level hard surface?

When you start releasing lever, when do you fill the clutch starting to engage?

What was it doing before you decide to adjust clutch?

How many miles on bike and how long it been since last maintenance?

When a wet(oil) clutch is adjusted properly and the engagement is not smooth, it's usually do to the warped overheated steels that the fiber faced plates grab to.

This can come from abuse or a ill adjusted clutch that was slipping awhile.

2002 XL 1200 Sporty. I recently adjusted my clutch screwed the center screw all the way to resistance, backed it off a quarter turn. I've got my clutch lever perfect, 1/8 play. When I go to take off it's jerky it's not a smooth take off what could be the problem. What did I do wrong

The question was, what was it like before you adjusted the clutch?

Didn't do that before. Ok, motor running at stop light, in 1st gear, friction starts close to the grip but not the bottom. Doesn't pull or creep at the stop . When completely engaged that's when she starts to jerk.

You are supposed to back the screw out (counter clockwise/anti clockwise) to encounter resistance, and then turn it in slightly to give clearance. Your clutch release pulls outward, which is why you turn counterclockwise to eliminate any play, the add some play back.

.Your description seems to indicate you did it backward?

Long story, short. Few months ago my clutch / throw out bearing disintegrated. Trailered it home any put it on the jiffy. I recently pulled the bearing out and got all pieces out including all th steel *****. Clean and simple procedure. Changed all fluids filled tank with fresh 93 octane. Figured I'd adjust the clutch and correct the play in the clutch lever. Took for a ride , that's when it started. She's Back in order except the jerking 1st gear

Do I screw that screw clock wise to the end and then back it out counter clockwise.

What was your full procedure for the clutch adjustment?

What oil and how much did you put in the primary / transmission?

What oil and how much did you put in the oil tank?
