http://www.steelthundercc.com/transmissions.html

Not sure if 6th gear is worth $2100... Plus $130 for the speedo calibration module.

That and the fact that the Baker kit is for 03's and earlier. They changed the gear sets and cases in the 04's and newer. Baker kit won't work.... Direct from the site:

NOTE: There are no 6-speed transmissions available for 04/L Sportsters. Due to the new design of the engine cases, most likely there will not be any 6-speeds for these models available in the future.

Just out of curiosity, what problem are you trying to solve wih it?
I ask, cause I put a LOT of cross counry miles on, with my typical cruise speed that the bike likes (sort of feels like you are floating along - hard to explain unless you experience it) is 78-80mph. This for me seems to be plenty fast for cross country, although I do run 85-90 for lengthy period of time as well. That s the only time that the rpm's are able a point that I wouldn't want to run on day long.
Regards....

I don't think a 6 speed is make for 04 and newer but if it were there is no reason to justify the price of a kit to install a six speed.

If you really wanna six speed it might be more cost effective to get a Dyna. I just ran over 3,000 miles on my Sporty and I don't need six gears for it. I was also running around 70ish to conserve fuel. If I ran a lot faster, I might want six speeds, though.

Hi, I ride with a guy with a 86 1100 Sporty with 4 gears, He wishes He had a 5th gear to run highway miles like the newer Sportsters. That change I could see. But I Myself would find no real improvment for the cost of adding a 6th gear to My Sportster as it cruises like others have stated at around 76-78mph . .....WVleo

To reduce engine speed at high speed cruise, above 65 mph, the easiest and least expensive method is to change the trans pulley to a larger one, more "teeth".
Each front tooth added is worth roughly 125 rpm at 70 mph. Each rear tooth is worth about 60-85 rpm at 70 mph.
The '91- '03's had a 55 tooth rear pulley available to reduce engine rpm's. It requires a 125 tooth belt, the 128 is too long.
The '04-Up has a 30 tooth available. While the 30 tooth is fine for 1200's, it doesn't help the 883er's much because in '04 HD changed the primary ratio to give the 883's more bottom; at the expense of the interstate cruiser.
For the high speed cruiser people either of two things can be done: 1. Change the 883 primary to a 1200 primary engine sprocket & chain. This is pretty "clean" because it also keeps the speedometer correct; or 2. Install a 32 tooth front transmission pulley, newly available 2011. This doesn't require a belt change. It does mess with your speedometer though, it'll read about 12% slow; enough for a ticket. To fix the speedo you can get a corrector module or have the HD Dealer reprogram your ignition module or get an after market ignition module that allows speedo correction. For 883er's that want more gear than just the 32, there is also a 66 tooth rear pulley for Sportster now available. The combination front & rear gets the 2004-Up 883's to roughly the same final ratio as a stock 1200, with a 30 tooth transmission pulley.
You can find this stuff on Ebay or with a Google for "Sportster Overdrive Pulley".
