Hey folks, I'm looking for some info. My son is completing his Motorcycle Safety Riding class this weekend so I ordered him a set of Cycle Shack Slip Ons to replace his stock mufflers.

How easy/difficult are the stock ones to take off? Also, I'm not planning on changing the air filter just yet, so will I need to have the carb re-jetted? If it helps any, his bike is a 93' 883.

I had slip-ons put on my bike....difficult? don't know. ( mechanic did it for me) but it didn't take long.
He did not touch the carb....works fine.

 

It isn't too hard.Allow about an hour if you have the service manual.You don't need to rejet if you leave the air cleaner alone.Rejetting is not that big of a deal either.Jets are about $5 each at the dealer.The float bowl screws would need changed though because the stock ones suck big time.I used stainless steel allen head screws.

 

Yeah, 45 minutes to an hour sounds right. I did it in 45 without a service manual, but I have done a lot of wrenching in the past. Just curious, which slip ons did you get. I have the Cycle Shack bologna cuts, and I love the sound and the look.

 

Well I cheated, I talked the dealer into installing my cycle Shacks at my 1,000 mile service. I have to admit I didn't like the sound of them at first, but after having about 200 miles on them now the sound is starting to get alot deeper. I love the way they sound at idle, at times it almost sound like a big V twin. I also get alot of thumbs ups at traffic lights too. Now keep in mine that this is on my XL 1200C.

 

I got the tapered ones. I'm not sure how varied the sound is between different models.

 

It's not that hard to install slip-ons. It's just a few bolts you need to remove. Will be even easier for you if you and your son do it together..Always easier with a second set of hands...As for needing a reject or A/C...you shouldn't if you've just doing slips ons. The exhaust pipes might get a little more "blue" than without the rejet because you'll still be running a bit lean but it wont blue the heat shields so no need to worry...I will say once you do the rejet and A/C...that bike is going to run so much better...was like night and day when I did my Sportster...Good luck.

 

I have cycle shacks and love them. I have almost 40,000 miles on the cycle shack slip ons. The only part of the install that can be tricky is getting the stock mufflers to slip off. Use lots of wd-40 and possibly a rubber mallet to get the stock mufflers off. Just so I could get my hands on it good, I took the entire exhaust off from the motor. Was just easier to wrestle with the thing that way. But not too difficult.

 

should be pretty easy. the first pipe took me 30 minutes to remove without wd 40. the next one was a cinch. i wish i knew about the wd40 from this forum before working on it.
