Default 2008 Harley Davidson XR1200 Specifications Review

Based on the specs (read more here) or personal experience with the bike, do you think that the new XR1200 can compete, dollar for dollar, with the top models in its class?

This bike is a nice edition to the Harley-Davidson lineup. It should do well against the bikes in its class.

What bikes in its class? There are none. From what I have seen out of Europe, they all race themselves in their own little world. This is cool if all you ever want to compete against is yourself. Then again. when nobody makes a bike that is similar in style and configuration it's hard to find competition.

ummm like the monsters, speed triples, buells, etc.. remember this bike was made for Europe where they more corners than straights. It`s not just about performannce as you know as nobody would be driving a HD at all cause all makers of same style import are all faster. It`s all about the ride and thats what made you and everyone else on here buy a Harley.

I give harley big thumbs up on this model. Wait till it gets a pc3 tune and filter and set of pipes just like every other harley. It`s gonna bridge the gap to alot and bring alot more people onboard who want a harley but dont want to buy a sportster and then spend $$ to change out forks, rims, tires, gauges etc..

IMO
I think this is a great effort but unsure about the target demographic...
most who are interested in this bike are current Harley owners...

I think that if they are after the hot standard guys i.e. Ducati Monster...Buell has better options...

Will it sell, yes because we will buy it... will it attract new riders into the Harley Family... I doubt it....

Now what does the Motor Company need??
How about a true V-Twin Buell Blast? (low cost...high quality)

How about a automatic Buell Blast.... or even an automatic sportster??

HD needs to attract new customers to the Brand to survive!

Cool

I really think people who had crotch rockets been there done that and now want a HD but aren`t ready yet for a cruiser and dont want a reg sportser will buy this and have it for a few years until they are ready for softail, dyna etc.. I think it will do well IMO to bring new blood to the brand.

I'm guessing that our local dealer has sold at least 10 bikes this February, yet the lovely looking XR1200 still sits under the spot light. Along with my new FLTR, I ride a Triumph Speed Triple and am looking forward to the day I meet up with the XR1200 on a good road.

Pat, having grown up in Beaver County I'm a Pixburg Steewer fan forever, this is my watch.

I saw the XR in my Dealers showroom yesterday, it sure is a looker. This is my current ride so I wasn't looking seriously, 2007 1200C.

I think they will buy the likes of an FZ1, B-King or something in the 600 class like the FZ6, SV650 or another naked sportbike where they will get power and performance far beyond the XR1200 and for much less money. Harley folks that want something different will no doubt go for the XR but that peice tells me to east for the money, far east....
