The prices are almost equal. Ducati comes with Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, more for your money.
This can't be a serious comparison. The XR weighs approx. 200 lbs more than the Monster 1100S.
How can you even compare the two. I mean I love harley as much as anybody else here but the Ducati would walke all over the XR. I think harley has steped it up with the XR but not enuff to compete with the Jap. or the Euro. bike.
Aprilia 1000R Tuono fastest production naked bike in the world! brembos... just awesome!
I don't want to rain on your parade but the Yamaha FZ1 and Triumph Speed Triple both have more torque, horsepower than the Tuono. The FZ1 will best the Tuono by half a second in the quarter mile and it is a butt load more comfortable for touring; way cheaper too.. The Tuono is sweet as are all the Aprilia machines but fastest production naked sportbike? Nope.
Given the choice I would be all over the Ducati however, before going that route or the route of the Aprilia I would be seriously looking at the MV Augusta Brutale 910S, which is superior to both and went for roughly $14,500 in 2008. This naked bike has 40 more horsepower than the XR1200, weighs 150 pounds less and much like the Tuono and Monster looks killer.
I think it would depend on what your doing with them. Doesn't the XR have a shorter wheelbase and less rake? If its heavier and shorter it might outperform the ducati on twisty roads. I really don't know that much about the ducati, but it does look pretty long and it also looks alot taller than the XR.
