Red bulbs under smoked lenses?
Looking for anyone using a red bulb under a smoked turn signal lens. Just wanted to know what you think of it. I'm considering putting red bulbs in the rear turn signals. I have smoked lenses with the amber bulbs right now. Would like to use the Kuryakyn iridium coated red bulb, but that is a two circuit bulb. My rear turn signals take a single circuit.

I run the smoked lense/red bulb (1156) set-up on my Softail. I blacked out the turn signal reflectors with a black Sharpie to make them darker. I like it and it's rare to find this combo. A few years ago, I looked for red 1156 bulbs for 6 months. Kuryakyn sells them for about $6 a piece. Top quality but expensive. Cheaper ones here:

Scroll down to the ones listed just below "The Beacon" light bulb (you'll see what I mean). These cheaper ones work great on my bike. However, a buddy tried them with a Run/Brake/Turnsignal module on his dresser and the color started burning off. The bulbs started looking white after a while. I think it's because they're on all the time with the R/B/TS module. My Softail lights only come on as Brake and TS. The dresser now has the Kury bulbs, but they haven't been in that long. Maybe 1000 miles. They still look crisp.

I hadn’t considered a red single circuit L.E.D. That may be a good idea. I’ve found both L.E.D. bulbs I would need, amber 2 circuit for the front and red single circuit for the back. I’m just wondering if a red incandescent under a smoked lens would look too pink, or not be bright enough in the day.

You can try the incandescent bulbs, but for the money and time it takes to get all that, I would just go to the LEDs. I ran red bulbs under my smoked lenses pretty much all last season and it does work. The light actually comes out really orangeish...I upgraded to red LEDs and the light is much brighter and looks a lot more red under the smoked covers.
