Question 07 sportster alarm lit,but no alarm installed

I have an alarm coming on that indicates there is a problem with the alarm system. The bike didn't come with an alarm system. I puzzled as to why this would happen. Has anyone encountered similar issue. It comes on shortly after I start it and stays on. Sometimes goes out for a couple of minutes and then stays on for 30 minutes or so. Definetely annoying. Appreciate any help. Tom

I take it your talking about the red key?
If so check your signals, some on here have reported a bad signal light connection or bulb causing that to come on.

It could also be a short to ground in the clutch switch. Check the "stickys" for the section on how to check for codes and the code list.

I think codes are when the engine light is lit not the red key light.

This same thing happened to me recently when I had a problem with the wiring for the turn signals. It basically signified a short for me.

Exclamation DTC code found

Thanx for your help. I did the check. Found the B1154 code. Clutch switch. Part number came up 68920. Would like to know what the best course of action is? This bike doesn't have many miles on it. Somewhat surprized that a part needs replaced.
This 68920 number,is this the clutch switch? Is this a common problem?
I cleared the fault code and will try running it today and see what happens. I figure the fault will return if problem still exists. Thanx,Tom

Well, I cleared the code (same as yours) and the the light has not come back on. The switch in question prevents start-up if the clutch is not pulled in when in gear. However, I always start in neutral with the clutch pulled in, so it's a non issue.

Red face Clutch switch fault

Well,I cleared the fault. Ran for a couple of miles and fault appeared again. This is coming on eventhough I hadn't tried to start engine with it in gear.
For the lack of knowing what else to do,I unbolted the clutch lever housing from handlebar.
I recall the previous owner had the grips changed.
Well,it turns out whoever installed the housing, pinched the wires when they tightened the clamp. I just tucked wiring back in and bolted up. IT's been 3 days and fault has come back. Thanx for all your help. Tom
