Default Looking at a 883 Sportster with my son

My 23yr old son is looking at his 1st road bike, an 07 883 Sportster, EX cond with less than 800 miles, stock + seat + backrest + windsheild. He can pick it up for around $5200
It was owned by a man in his 70's.

What do you think?
Is there anything we should be looking for/at?
Whats it worth?

Thanks
John

John, I'd say go for it, it hasn't even had the 1,000 mile check up yet. Do you havea picture yet. Thanks, Dave

Here's an 07 with 11,000 miles on it.

I think that price is a bit high...I would offer a tad less. But it does sound nice with the extras.

Price does sound a bit high. FYI I picked up an 06 883 with 7,xxx miles for 4G about a month ago. They may use the low miles as leverage but look on the flip side, that bike has only been ridden approx. 300 miles per year and sitting the rest! Who knows how long it sat and where.

If he's stuck on the EFI see if you can get it for 5G. Personally I would go for a rubber mounted carb'd 883 but that's just me and just what I did. Either way make sure he takes the rider safety course at the DMV, it really helped me gain some confidence on a bike.

What year did they go to EFI?

What year did they go to rubber mounted motor?

I think we both will take the rider saftey course.

Thanks
John

07 is the first year sportsters came with EFI and 2004 is the first year for the rubber mount. My first sporster was an 07 and i sold it and bought and 04. Both are very good bikes but i do like 04 better. It's a lot easier and cheaper for me to tune then the 07 was and runs great. My 07 ran great also tho. So, its really up to him. Just have ride as many models as he can and he will know what he wants in no time.

That's close to $2,000 below when it was new. 883 is a good bike.

Get a feel for prices in your area, that could be a good price right there.

The 07 runs great and requires no tuning.
