Default 1978 XLCH - fuel filter?

I recently bought a 78 XLCH 1000 and have been trouble shooting some problems with it.

Does anyone know if this model is supposed to have an inline fuel filter?

Skulls, there is a screen (or should be) in the tank attached to the pitcock.

yea I have that, but then there is also an inline fuel filter in the fuel line a couple inches below the fuel valve. i am wondering if it is supposed to be there. because I seem to be having some problems with my fuel being restricted. so I wanted to see if it was supposed to be there ( or needs to be there) before i try taking it off.

take it off and try it....

Be sure you have good plugs too... I'll have a problem with mine ocassionally, it's cold blooded and the plugs have a tendancy to foul. I'll take them out, sand blast them, clean them up and reset them. RUNS LIKE A CHAMP!

Skulls,
what kind of trouble are you shooting?maybe I can help?I figure you may have something plugging the petcock itself.(considering you have an older bike, clean out that tank real good and buy a new petcock)what are the problems your having?

Whatever you do, don't leave the petcock open when the bike is off . If it's no good replace it. If gas leaks down the cylinder walls it will not only eliminate any oil on the rings on startup, it will contaminate the oil. #1 problem for engine rebuilds.
