Default Raking the frame

I really like the way sportsters look with the frame raked. How is this done? do you just get longer forks, or does there have to be some sort of modification to the frame? just curious to see how much im gonna have to save up thanks.

longer fork tubes plus the frame has to be cut apart at the steering head and rewelded.

taggiascoz's bike looks great! Much better than most other bikes with a front end kit.
On mine, I cut the frame to get the achieved rake, because I wanted a lifted look to the tank and forward frame. The frame was cut about 1/2 way down the front tubes (basically right in front of the heads), and a 4" section welded in there. Then it was cut under the seat, and a small angled section was welded in there. Then I had 10" over fork tubes put on it to level the bike out. It also required new cables, due to the extra 4" lenghts.
I didn't do any of that work, 'cuz I don't weld. I let a qualified indy do it. All together, that cost me about $1700.

How much do AME kits run? does anyone have a good link to purchase? Also, how intensive is the labor? I like doing it myself?

you can only buy it from here they are the US distributors, the labor isnt hard i did it with my old man, you just need a jack to lift the front of the bike, and i tool which you can buy from them to pull out the bearings' guides out of the neck of the bike since they wont be needed anymore.

I checked that link, for 1800 bones wouldn't it be cheaper to take it in and get it welded?

taggiascoz, I really like the looks of that, the bike looks great. Can you give more info on that AME kit, your opinions, cost etc, etc. Did you install it your self or have it done? I would like to get that done to mine.

Once again, great looking bike.

Ken

Sorry, posted before I read the whole thread.

i dunno about the cost whether it was the right price or not, the triple trees look good, the chrome plating is well done but most important the bike is steady as a rock, i live in the country i have these sharp corners like 45° i touch the asphalt with the exhaust but the bike wont wobble whilst it used to when i had the raked triple trees only.
