Smile Inspection cover leak

Changed the transmission oil on my 07. Took off the inspection cover to add a qt of mobil1 and installed new gasket and o rings on the screws. used antiseize on the screws. Took the bike out for a spin to get hot and its leakings. Not around the screws but at the bottom of the inspection cover plate. Im thinking i might have pinched the cover and thats why its leaking. The gasket is the new style thicker gasket and not the old style flimsy rubber one. Gonna try to reseat the gasket and torque screws to specs. My question is will a little pipe dope or gasket sealer around the gasket hurt or help? Thanks in advance for any experinced advice.

I've used gasket sealer on the inspection cover with success.

Harley changed the inspection cover it takes a different gasket . You still can get the old style gasket off of ebay item #: 260379771395 (34986-04).Or just change to the new style inspection cover part # 34993-04a .Do you still have your old gasket i would just put it back on.

+1 I took my bike in to have the oil changed and while there had them swap out for the Willie G Inspection cover. It leaked and they fiddled with it for awhile before one of the other techs said you have to use the old gasket. Apparently the new ones just dont work right.

On my wife's '09 I couldn't get that darn gasket to stay put long enough to get the derby in place. I finally resorted to vaseline in the gasket groove to hold it. I figure it's petroleum based, it's not gonna hurt anything. It was the only way I could get it to stay put so I could install the derby.

The torque is important, heard here a while ago that overtightining can warp the cover and cause a leak.
+ 1 also on the new gaskets being a problem, they use the same cover.

looking at my manual for the primary inspection cover (1)its says

tighten hex socket screws to 40-60in-lbs(4.5-6.8nm)

this will help http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s...spection+cover
