You probably be happy with the HD detachable. I bought a detachable that mounted to the handlebars. It was okay, but when you take it off, the mounts are still on the handlebars.
Also, think about the height. Too high can cause helmet buffeting and make you look through the windshield instead of over it. Too low can cause helmet buffeting. It is tricky to adjust one to the correct height you need. Definately want something that gives you a lot of options.
I trashed mine and went for a flyscreen. Personally, I don't care for windshields on Sportsters (just me). I do like having some protection. The flyscreen is a compromise for me. It prevents wind from hitting my body (chest) so I don't feel like I have to hang on for dear life at 70+ mph without having a windshield but still gives me air-flow so I feel like I am riding a bike. At this point, I can only recommend one if you wear a full face helmet. The wind hits me a head level (but not the chest) and the full face helmet splits the wind well so I have no head buffetting or feel like the helmet is trying to lift off my head. The flyscreen I use is attached to the front forks and is adjustable.
Not for everyone. But works well for me. You can see how small it is in my sig picture. It amazes me how something that small can protect so well.

I don't ride the highway without a windshield. Where I live it's almost always windy.
I have the HD QD, 18". I also bought a 14" plexi panel used to be able to switch it to try.
Helmet buffeting was a real problem for me. I added Softail lowers, that helped some. What really solved the buffeting problem was switching to a small helmet.
One other thing you can do with a QD is attach it below the triple tree. When it's mounted there, I can see over it. That's what I prefer. If I hit really bad wind or rain, I can pop it above the tree into its normal position and gain a bit more protection.

That said I found out by putting on a leader doo rag as apposed to a material one it lessen it quite a bit. Tighter fit I recon.
