Default new to forums , back rest question

hello , i just bought a 2008 sportster xl custom 105th anniversary edition. My question is do you have to remove the back wheel to put on mounting barckets for a quick release sissy bar / back rest. Is this something best left for the dealer to install. Thanks in advance.
