I am installing a new security system on my wife's 04 Sportster and the kit comes with one Fob. A friend as an identical used Fob from a previous bike they owned and said I could have it.
Question, can I reprogram the used Fob with my new system and if so, how?

You do not need to take your bike to the local stealer.
I have changed the TSSM module itself, and have successfully reprogrammed the original fobs to recognize the new TSSM. If both fobs are the same part number, and they are compatible with your TSSM part number you should be able to reprogram them.
I do not think the TSSM knows that you paid for one, and someone gave you the other. The TSSM allows for 2 key fobs to be recognized. They just have to be programmed in the same sequence. The new program sequence will disable all previously assigned key fobs.
The HD TSSM is capable of few things ... but it is just an entry alarm system ie., personal codes in case you loose a fob while the system is armed, disarming, transport modes, and different sensitivity levels etc...
There are more sections in the instruction manual and owner's manual covering the other procedures.
I sent you a PM with the manual instructions for the basic 2 key fob assignment. It would probably be a good idea to pick up an instruction booklet, or owner's manual somewhere for future reference since you now have a security system to look after.
It should be about as easy as an oil change.

Looks good, the stealer wants 1 hour to install, that's $85. I knew there was a way to do it ourselves, I got your PM with the instructions.
Thanks!

Is this for the push button fobs?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
In '07 the Sportster went to the smart security system, the key fob has no push button and automatically turns itself on/off when you move away/towards the bike.
'06 and earlier use the manual key fob, and you have to push the button located on fob to arm/disarm the system. You also use the push button for the programming modes.

That's what I thought. I have the passive fob system. All I can do is let the dealer add an additional fob.

Make sure the bike gets used or turn on winter mode or the battery will die unless it is on a tender 24/7.2006 may be different but I doubt it .I have seen quite a few complaints about this.Mine came with the damn thing and I wish it didn't.My wifes 02 will start after sitting all winter with a way older battery.Mine won't.
