In the last couple of days I have noticed my started failes to disengage after starting, and sometimes when the mainpower is turned on the bike starts with out touching the starter. I have an appointment at the local HD shop in a couple of week, but from what they are telling me it will be over a $1000 fix. I'm thinking it might be something simple, but I donot know what to look at. Any suggestions

 

I would say research it more and then fix it yourself. Crazy to spend that much money repairing a motorcycle for God's sake.

 

I would begin with the starter switch.

 

switch, or check the wires to see if one is grounding somewhere

 

All the above. Check the circuit and you'll most likely find it. Even if it takes the whole day to find that's still better than spending $1000.
