Default 1995 XLH1200 oil change question...

I recently bought a 1995 XLH1200 and want to change the oil. Please don't tell me to buy a service manual as I have one on order.

How much oil in the crankcase and how much in the primary?

I used to have a Sportster but I don't remember the quantities.

Thanks,
Jim

crank will be a little under 3quarts, and primary pretty much right about 1 qt, for proper primary level pull the clutch inspection cover and with the bike upright, oil should just come up to just touch the bottom of the clutch diaphram spring.

Thank you very much, just what I needed to know.

Default Primary Oil Change

If after the primary oil change you experience some clutch drag that wasn't there before, the oil level is probably a bit too high. Take out a couple of ounces. Through experience I've learned that the primary on my 96 Sportster takes right at 29 ounces.

Thanks for the tip.
