cHarley, do you have any idea one what if any actual changes are on 94 carb to the 05 carb?? Other than the possiblity of different stock settings/jets.

how about Crank position sensor problems can act like you are having problems with carb.

The two primary differences I know of are the 04up carb has a float bowl overflow outlet and the Main (high speed) jet & jet holder are different and can not be interchanged. Well, they can be physically interchanged if you swap both together BUT you will wind up with a screwed up high speed A/F ratio. The earlier model jet holder has only 2 air holes in the side of the tube, while the later model has something like a dozen holes. The threads on the main jet are different between the 2 models so a 180 jet from one model won't screw into the jet holder from the other.

I know this from first hand experience. An early model carb with a late model main jet & jet holder will give you a high speed A/F ratio over 20/1 even with a 195 jet.

My stock 94 carb does have a float bowl overflow outlet, and the main jet tube has multiple holes(alot more than 2), so maybe it's earlier model that your thinking of charley. I guess the real question is gonna be fitment, I know the engine side is the same size, but I don't know if they maybe changed the intake side bolt alignment. And the other thing would be the throttle cable bracket. Tommorow when I get a chance to dig the carb out I'll see If I can take a few pictures, and flyingsportster you can take a look and compare my 94 carb to yours.

hey if it looks like it will work or i can make it work i will deffinatley purchase yours off you.

Thanks for all the input, I would think my jets in my carb now would fit into the 94 carb. but if not i wont be too concerned about it.
Id probably have to order new jets for the carb.

Thanks again guys.

Would figurethe Harley dealer would come up with the most expensive **** and bull story.
They only know how to replace parts not actually repair anything.
I still bet there is nothing wrong with your carb except the enrichener cable, valve has something wrong with it or the carb needs to completely disassembled and soaked for 6-8 hours in goood carb cleaner and then rinsed in very hot water.

Well here's a few pics. Main jet in now is a 170.....pilot I think is 45....i didn't have a screwdriver the right size to pull it out and look. There is no choke cable, but the plunger, spring and plastic nut is there,(I transfered the cable to use with my mikuni).

It's got a part number of 27489-92, and I just did a quick search and the latus harley website shows it as a 883 carb.....list price of $279, but didn't have anymore details. I'll shoot you an e-mail shortly.

So i pulled the carb apart, the diaphram looks good, so does the slide.
I pulled the bottom end off and looked at the jets, they look good. I noticed that the float moves freely and does indeed float. however the float needle in my opinion looks a tad worn.

So my thinking is, and correct me if im wrong, that the float needle being worn a bit allows more fuel into the bowl, which in turn allows more fuel into the engine.

I am not an expert on carbs, nor a master mechanic, the only other time ive worked on a carb is when my son rejetted his bike, which has a similar designed carb.

Also on another note, I noticed that the float needle has a sping driven piston on the bottom of it, I would think that it is some sort of tension spring, what does this part do?

All of your advise and opinions have been greatly appriciated and thanks in advance.
