um thats going to fail. you can put electronic equipment so close to an exhaust pipe. the capacitors will dry out in that kind of environment. hd engineers must be on crack.
I'm betting that housing is shielded from the heat.

got that right, electronics and heat do not get along very well. i foresee a lot of problems in the future with that setup. looks to me like the engineers were lazy as hell and could not come up with a better place to stuff it. the computers/ecm in your vehicle use aluminum heat sinks to dissipate the heat and are usually submerged in an epoxy resin and not a shitty plastic box. imo hd engineers did a hack-job on that idea.

Last riding season I was cruising around town and mid turn my bike freaked out and went full throttle. I thought at first either a cable stuck or the TPS was faulty so I checked my cables and replaced the throttle positioning sensor. Turns out the aftermarket pipes I have, got hot enough, and these 105 degree summer days, plus stop and go traffic.... well let's just say all of these factors over time, caused an ECM FAILURE from hell. I almost went down amidst traffic while taking a turn in a busy intersection. Now I've been riding for 25 years and working on cars, trucks and bikes for years and have never seen something as stupid as Harley's mistake in locating an ECM in such a stupid place.
Now I just need to find a replacement that I can afford. I've dumped a good amount of money already on sensors and a new intake and throttle body.
