Talking bung hole vent help

yeah so i got this gas cap from debrix and it said it was a vented gas cap. it didn't fit the vent on my 04 tank has a raised vent tube that gets in the way, my buddy has a vented tank on his fatboy but the vent is just a hole next to the fill hole.
my question is, can i cut that vent tube down? so there is still a hole there but its not raised??
like i said the cap is vented.
why do i need a raised vent tube??
this is the cap i got

the only reason I can think of is in case of over filling the tank, it makes it impossible to cover the vent. make since?

Yes you can cut it down, as long as it doesn't get blocked or plugged.

i was thinkin a usin a dremle with a little saw blade on it....plug up the bung and tape off then it should only take 5 mins or so, then use a vacum and some compressed air to get rid of the dust, take all the **** back off and put the new cap on, i'll take some pics

Is there gas in your gas tank? I want to see video of you taking a dremel to that.

I'm sure you'll take the necessary safety steps bla bla bla but it's the fumes that are the most dangerous around sparks. A trick I picked up along the way is after the tank has been emptied & flushed a couple of times I pump a good amount of welding gas (argon) in there to displace the gas fumes. Works great. I section, cut & weld gas tanks often. Be safe! I'd hate to see that cool *** paint get melted.
