Gasoline spray out the carb intake?!??
I just picked up a 95 sportster chopper. She is 99% done, so now it is up to me to do all the tuning/sorting/bug cleaning. She has an open velocity stack intake with a mesh screen and shotgun pipes with baffles. She fires up like a champ, really doesnt need any choke and idles perfect. Cold engine blips of the throttle sometimes result in a bit of a fine mist of gas coming out of the stacks and occasionally pops through the carb and occasionally associated fireballs from the velocity stack. THe pops and occasional fireballs are rare when the engine is warmed up. When riding, when you get around 1/2-3/4 throttle and above, you can feel a mist of gas coming from the velocity stack on your knee! This doesnt seem normal to me. Also wide open throttle seems a bit boggy, she accelerates pretty good, but I can feel/hear a bit of hesitation/not 100% power. Also I smell like exhaust after a ride. I'm not sure what jets are in it yet. Why is fuel mist coming out of the carb? Why is it boggy at WOT? Any ideas? Thanks!!
