Default Iron 883 to 1200 Conversion

Well after a summer of riding a 2009 Iron 883 finally decided to convert it to a 1200. Went with the Screaming Eagle kit, all I can say is I love the change. Big difference in power, sounds deeper and I love to looks. I opted to go with the Screaming Eagle kit to keep my warranty. I know there are other kits to choose from but I feel for me I made the right choice. Will have it Dyno'ed in the Spring, can wait to see the HP and Torque values compared to the Stage 1 883 set up.

I'm doing the same kit soon. The shop told me to wait a few months, because there are some deals coming up. I cant wait to do mine.

I'm really curious to know about the deals your shop told you were coming up on the conversion kits. I don't feel like I need the upgrade to 1200cc but i think i want it. is it really a big difference?

Just out of curiousity, what was the total cost of your 883-->1200 conversion...?

I had considered doing the same thing before i got the deal i did on my Nightster... buying an 883 till i got used to riding the bike, then doing a 1200 conversion with the money i saved when i was ready for the power boost.

When i went to put on my 1200 for the iron in Feb. we ran into a lot of problem like the hd kits do not have a black kit for the bike. Either u get gray or black with finished edges. My local shop said they could do it for 800 bucks but ended up eating so i could keep the black motor. they done about 600 bucks of extra work. Best bet just for a 1250 kit or 1300. I steal have trouble keeping up with 1200 in high end because of the gears in the iron 883. My buddie has nightster with 1 inch tank riser and we get about the same fule mileage

Default Conversion

I got the conversion (SE 883 to 1200 kit), 1200 clutch spring, dyno tune (will have it done next Spring after break in), and winter storage for $1600. Labor and tax included. I have 500 miles on it since the kit was installed and notice a big power/torgue difference compared to the 883 stage 1 set up. Feel it was worth the cost for conversion, I'm happy and when it all boils down to it, thats all that matters. The Iron with the conversion still cost me less than a Nightster and I like the flat black of the Iron, shorter bars, and feel of the bike compared to the feel and colors available with a Nightster, although there are plenty of super nice Nightsters out there.
