The horn on my '04 1200 Custom is plenty loud. Maybe the other Sportster models are set differently. On some car horns there is a loudness adjustment screw so maybe the same is on your horn.

Hmmmm...and I thought my horn on my 1200 was pretty loud compared to most bikes???
A few days ago I was cruising down the road on my 2005 1200C, and decided to try the horn. I hadn't used it since I got the bike.

I assume the horn is stock (yeah I know, never assume anything), but I was surprised how loud it was. Seemed to me to be almost as loud as a horn on a car.

I don't know, but it's plenty loud enough for me...

I thought the same with my 1200C.

When I was in the process of buying my bike I test rode a 883 C and a 1200C to see if there were any major differences. The Horn was one. The horn on the 1200 sounds more like a car horn and is much louder.

From what I can gather, the "cowbell" side mounted horn on the 1200C's is quite a bit louder than the horns on the other models.

Apparently some models have a smaller "round" horn mounted in front between the forks.

Here is what someone else had said about the 1200C horn:

"one of the first things i did to my 05 1200c was relocate the horn to the same place the 883 goes. i made a l bracket and painted it black. it looks factory. i think the 1200 horn by the choak pull is louder than the 883 horn mounted between the frame rails? my stock 1200 horn is very loud. done deal"
I like where the 883 "beep beep" horn is located, but I'd never give up the respective HONK that the cowbell horn makes. I'd like to see how that someone else mounted it between the frame rails. I've heard that the new HD air horn that mounts in place of the cow bell horn ain't as good as they claim.

I think the horn on my 1200C is loud enough, but my Vance & Hines Short Shot pipes are a lot louder! When a cage starts changing lanes into me instead of fumbling for the horn button I give the bike a good rev. It scares the crap out of the cage driver and he gets out of my way real quick! Yes, loud pipes really do save lives!

Or like someone else that said when fumbling for the horn button after someone almost cut them off; "instead of the horn I ended up giving them an angry left turn signal."

05 1200 custom horn is louder than my monte carlo. Stupid people still pull in front of me I just try and stay the hell out the way!

I bet on avarege, I have 3 people pull in front of me per half hour. Usually they whip onto the shoulder wanting me to then pass!
Why didnt they just wait about 1/100th of a second and I would not have been in their way?
Just this morn I was GOING to make a left turn on MY green arrow and had to stop in the middle of the intersection for some putz in a pickup who drove through HIS red. Smiling and waving to me as he cut me off as if to say" HI hows it going man? Im going to blow through this light here, hope ya dont mind"

This is why I quit carrying my 45 auto.
