Default 2006 XL1200C bars & risers

I'm currently running the stock pull-back riser with a drag bar on my 2006 1200 Custom. Anyone familiar with the 2004-up Sportster Customs should know that the speedo housing is built into the riser clamp. Now, I want to replace this set-up with a set of 6" straight risers with flat-track style bars, however, the riser clamp with built-in speedo doesn't seem like it will fit any other riser combination besides what comes stock on my bike. So, my question to the masses is how do I pull off this mod without ditching my stock speedo...?? The only way I figure I can get around this if I find a pre-2004 1200 Custom speedo housing and riser set-up because these had the 6" straight risers instead of the pull-back style.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Do a search for the thread "Apes or Drag bars". You will find a couple of alternative methods of mounting the speedometer (on a 1200 Custom). I also like flat-track bars, what brand are you looking at?

Shoat, I really like the way your speedo is mounted. Do you have any other photos. Is that stock for a 1220 c? Are the clamp bolt holes offset like they are on a newer sporstster? How does the speedo attach to the clamp? where are your idiot lights? thanks

wes mullen - its just the stock 2005 1200C riser with speedometer made into rear part of top clamp and idiot lights in the forward part of the top clamp.

JustinDap - I don't mean to sound like a broken record but that thread contains a lot of information about alternative methods for mounting the speedometer. Just thought it would be easier to refer questions to that thread instead of going through it all again. I'll give it a rest.

That sure is a nice paint job you got there.

Shoat - That thread does have a lot of info in it. I defenitely went to it when I needed ideas on relocating my speedo. I would just think that people would have seen the other threads on this subject and not have to make a new one. It's all good.
