I had the same issue.. ended up being the battery.. the thing was going bad and I didn't know it.. until it started leaking battery acid.. got a new gel cell.. I've only had it in about a week and seems to be running a hell of a lot better.. and haven't had the issue yet so hopefully its the end of it.

I've had the same thing happen 4 times. Everything goes completely dead for a split second. The engine re-fires on its own. I've checked for codes but found none. I checked all of the electrical system. It hasn't occurred in the last 40,000kms but that doesn't mean it's fixed.

This is what happened to me (3 times). The 4th time it actually shut down completely. I had nothing,(lights, starter etc)Then it decided to start. Went straight to the dealer and said WTF! They were too busy to look at it but said a loose Neg. connection is a common issue. Checked, and sure enough it was loose.

50 mph in 5th gear and you "gunned it?" Might get away with the lower gearing of an 883, but my 1200 would strongly object to doing that.

If I tried that my bike wouldn't like it very much.. I would say 4th would be safe.. maybe even 3rd.. but I wouldn't do it in 5th.. cant be too good on the engine..
