Default gear ratio change..

the first mod that i usually do to a new bike is to put a lower gear ratio in it.. i would like to lower my 09 1200 sporty to the 883 ratio.. does the lower gear ratio on the 883 come from a different primary gear or some other place.?

Are you talking about the tranny gears or belt drive pulleys? and most of all why?
There are other ways to make the bike accelerate harder.

883 has both lower gears in the tranny and a lower front sprocket. I also have to say why? If you do much interstate riding, the 883 gear ratio is really turning some high RPM levels at 80 mph.

The front secondary drive pulley is where you will find the most low end grunt for the money.

ive owned a 1200s sporty years ago and a 11200n last year that were left stock.. now ive got the 09 1200l for the OL

most of my harleys have been dynas and softails. had 3 xb buells also.. the biggest bang for the buck in all these bikes was to put a lower gear in them, especially the buells.. i could ride my uly all day on the interstate with the lower xb9 primary gear and it was great, smooth as stock.. no need to do any mods to the speedo..

maybe the sporty is a different animal and doesnt respond well to the mod.. i would hate to spend the money and be disapointed in the ride..

My 883 was fine at interstate speeds, it's just turning a lot of RPM's I haven't done anything to the gearing yet, but since I converted the engine to 1250, I will most likely put in a larger front sprocket, and recalibrate the Speed O
