I am new to HD motorcycles. I just bought a used 1998 sportster 1200 with a peanut style gas tank. I would like to buy a used tank that is larger than the original 2 gallon tank. I am not familiar with the different models and what tanks that will fit my model. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

95-03 are the same.

 

You could get a larger peanut tank(3 gallon "King" tank) or most aftermarket sites i.e. Dennis Kirk, J&P Cycles, etc. carry a fat bob style tank that is usually 4 gallon. +1 on jag's comment. And hey jag, sweet avatar!
