Smile Sportster mod ideas

Ok, I just picked up my 2001 Sportster Custom 1200 (12,000 miles). I am looking at doing some simple mods to the bike, but I want to keep it operational during the process so my son can ride it with me. I'm thinking of cutting the rear fender back and relocating a new tail light. Does anyone know where I can find an led tail light that is small but bright?

I'm looking for ideas since this is my first attempt. Thanks

Post a pic of the bike and we'll suggest away, what's the look you want to end up with eg; bobber, chopper, street rod, cruiser?

Relocate the plate to the left side with a Dollar bracket from home depot. Mount it to the lower shock bolt, worked for me .. And 2 inch riser extentions from dk customs. I have the same bike, they will fit without any mods to the lines, that way it can have 7" of rise.

That bike looks good. I wouldnt cut anything.

Why not put some slip ons on it?

Instead of relocating the taillight I would relocate that plate and just upgrade to LED where they are.

I would chop the fender, side mount plate, slip-on's or full exhaust, relocate the front signals, relocate the mirrors, loose the belt guard, maybe some nice air shocks, a fork brace if your into spirited riding.

I'm looking at the pics from my tablet but somehow they are super blurry. anyways it looks like if you ever think you might want to put saddle bags you should leave the plate where it is. I think it's on the fender..... shocks are a preference, I'm content with my stockers. I put the security system on my bike recently. makes me a little more relaxed about my bike being out of sight. I improved my seat for comfort and looks. I liked how simple my bike was to begin with. sometimes less is more so don't put a bunch of expensive stuff on your just going to ebay for half the price. put sissy bar on cause it makes the wife feel safer and I like to hang stuff there. I got a bag I can on the quick throw on the sissy bar. think of what you will use on the bike along with looks. those where what I thought of for my bike, maybe it will give you direction or maybe I have different ideas but there they are.
