I wasn't sure if this should be here or the Evo section or the general Harley section, since the compliment was about Harley's in general, but I decided to park it here.

I've got an old Carbureted black Sportster, and it's very rare when someone compliments it. There's a thread about "do you name your motorcycle?" I don't name mc's but if I did name of my Sportster it would be "Rodney Dangerfield" because it doesn't get any respect either, except from me. Not that it matters to me though because I just enjoy riding it. I don't own it hoping for someone else's approval. Still, if it gets a compliment it's okay. This past weekend I was parked in a parking lot, the Sportster was doing it's typical very low idle, and after I shut it off, someone came up to me and said, "Nothing sounds quite like a Harley."
I said thanks to him but my unspoken thought at the time was Yeah, nothing sounds like a Harley, including new Harley's

 

I get compliments on my Vivid Black 1991 Sportster all the time. You need to hang out in a different neighborhood.

I guess I do, if I wanted it to stand out. Around here black stock Sportsters are almost a time a dozen, people usually don't give them a second glance unless something was done or added to it. I have gotten compliments on the seat cover, but someone could do that to any motorcycle. If I lived in Carlsbad, I'd also be riding it more, giving it more exposure. At this moment it's in the high twenties and they're predicting 3 inches of snow in my part of Ohio.
When I was younger I rode in this kind of weather on a Kawasaki 650 and got a few comments. They were mostly the "Are you crazy?" variety.

 

I get compliments on my Sporty rat bike a lot, almost always from teenage boys.
