Default 89 belt drive conversion?

so my 89 sporty won't pass pa starte inspection because it need a new chain and sprocket. My brother was telling me i should just do a belt drive conversion. But the stealership couldn't find one for a 89. Does anyinbe know if there is one made for a 89? Would you recommend this?

Every other bike i hsave ever owned had a chain - why is a belt better?

A couple reasons a belt may be better is that there's no oiling needing & therefore no oil being slung all over the back of the bike. Another reason is that the belt does not tend to stretch anyway near what a chain does. Also, they are rated for something like 100,000 miles before replacement. I know Debrix Cycles & Zippers had some listed for XL's back to '91. http://www.debrix.com/Rear-Belt-Driv...20-0049-vt.htm You could contact them to see if it would fit your '89.

Harley used to build a belt conversion but it was real pricey, just replace the sprocket and get one of the newer chains that have the lub impregnated into the rollers, I think it was Diamond that made the one I bought. It's way cheaper than converting.
