Question Spray painting stock gas cap?

Got rid of my skull gas cap and was sold on getting a Lick's black gas cap... But then I thought about it... Couldn't I just spray paint mine flat black and call it a day? Has anyone done this? Would it chip off easily? I was thinking of using some high heat black matte that I used on my air filter cover.

You may want to sand it a little before painting with some real fine sandpaper..

I bet the plastic dip spray paint would last a long time. I have used it on my quad and it has never chipped at all.

They sell it at Home Depot for about $4

That's the first "mod" I did when I got my bike home last May. Just make sure you sand it down just a little, and try painting something that doesn't go on your bike to see if the color matches. Different companies have different "flat black".

I think I got myself a rainy day project...if you can call it a project. Looks like I'll give this a go this weekend. If I remember I'll post pics.

If it helps, I got a POM jar (pomegranite juice NOT mine) to set it on. The diameter was perfect to fit the stem portion in and keep off the ground to paint and dry. It's hood, but it works.
