T-Bar mockup
I've been thinking of replacing my stock XLC bars and riser with a set of 8" rise T bars, while relocating the speedo to the top triple tree ala Capttawes. The bars are 8" rise, 5" pullback, 29 1/2" wide - 1 1/4" diameter.
I bought some 3/4" PVC pipe and went about mocking up the bars I was looking at on ebay. I removed the mounting bolts to the stock bars/riser and slapped on the plastic bars the other night to see how the fitment would be. I also put the speedo mounting bracket in place. The mock bars feel a bit taller and closer than the stock setup - which is what I'm looking for.
I went to the local indy to check on some prices and I think I've decided to forego the bars I was planning to buy (pre-wired with chrome control buttons for around $250) and pick up a similar set of drilled bars for around $75-80 and re-use my wiring. I think the clutch and throttle cables will be long enough and I can purchase the wiring extension if necessary.
So rather than spend $250 on the bars and another $70 on some Kuryakyn ISO grips, I can purchase the unwired bars AND the Kury grips for around $150. I can use some of the savings to replace my stock fork springs to Progressives.

The bars came in today. I decided to go with pre-drilled (not pre-wired) as I was originally thinking. Paid $75 for the bars, including shipping. I'll just reuse the signal buttons and wires and save over $170. I need a new rear tire, so I know where the savings will go!
Compared my PVC mock-up bars to the real deal and I must say - I got them very close. I'll post some side-by-side photos later.
Now I'm awaiting my Kuryakyn ISO grips and I'm stopping at the indy on the way home for some brake line parts and advice. Hope to have the mods done by the weekend.

Bars are almost done
I picked up the last of the parts today and started putting it all together. Also got my new Metzeler 150 rear tire. Still have to bleed out the front brakes and go over everything, but I'm at least 90% done.
