Stage I vs Stage II
#3
On the Arlen Ness air filters, I believe what he labels the Stage II are slightly bigger/wider filters than the Stage I, and there are a lot of other different options in terms of materials (stainless steel, some filters are jacketed, different covers, some come with covers and some don't, etc., etc.) I don't see a need for a Stage II AN air filter unless you plan to make more changes to the stock engine (heads, cams, etc.) The Stage I will work fine as a high flow air filter on most bikes and will be a large improvement over stock.

In motorcycle terminology:
Stage .5 - install High Flow exhaust and A/C, and adjustment of the A/F ratio. (many people here erroneously call this Stage 1)
Stage 1 is the the above + a programmable ignition module to custom tune ignition timing.
Stage 2 is all of the above + head-work and cams.
When it comes to AN's stage 1 vs stage 2 A/C's, it just means more sq. inches of media surface, and that means a larger physical unit.

If you want to put the stage II on it will be fine for looks and perfomance. But you will not flow any more air than the stage I air cleaner unless you modify your motor. IE: Cams, Head porting, big bore, pipes, port your carb or swap for a larger one, etc..
