Forty Eight Tank Swap ???
#12
I wanted to do the same thing with my 48.
They won't hit if you move them out enough to where you can't use them.
If you have different results, please post pics and how you did it so I can do it too .
Thanks in advance.
RTW.

[quote=Daniel Hunter;6894465]I bought a Forty-Eight on 6/13 and I'm having the tank swapped out tomorrow for a larger 3.3 peanut tank.
When I bought the bike I had the dealer order a Nightster tank in vivid black. Since the tank is pre-painted it'll match the fenders and supposedly is a direct bolt on swap.
I'm dropping the bike off on Tuesday afternoon and picking it up the following afternoon so I'll try and snap some pictures on Thursday.
Here's what it'll look like (cut and pasted in Paintbrush)
That is what it should have looked like coming from the factory--great bike!

My bike should be done later today.
I measured the mirror clearance with the stock tank and I had 2 inches on either side. Unless the 3.3 gallon tank is 4 inches wider I should be fine.
In the unlikely event that I do have a clearance issue with the mirrors I've got a simple solution.....flip the mirrors back into the conventional (above bars) position. They'd probably be more useable up there anyway.

Ok, let me start off by saying I'm sorry but I can't post pictures until tomorrow. My camera is at work.
That being said....
I just rode my bike home and it looks amazing!
The 3.3 gallon tank fits perfectly and I didn't have to flip my mirrors above the bars. I positioned the mirrors right where I want them and I have a little over an inch of clearance on the left and a little more on the right.
When I showed up to pick up my bike one of the service guys said "that's the best looking Sportster I've seen in a loooong time."
