I used an axle from 04 sporter with the homemade spacers until a year ago. I then found a later model wheel. After 07 or 08 they all went 25mm so i was able to put 1inch bearing in that wheel and go back to my 1inch axle. Hd has kits of a new spacer and bearings. The spacer for the 3/4 and 1 1inch are the same length but the 25mm are longer due to the bearing being narrower.

I have a Deuce wheel in my Glide. There are several ways of solving the challenge, as the OD of the bearings H-D has used of 3/4", 1" and 25mm all have the same OD. The bearing cups in a Deuce wheel will accept all three of those sizes. The machining mentioned, to accept 1" bearings, is not to the bearing cups, but the hole through the centre of the wheel, between the bearing cups.

I used 1" bearings by buying an H-D bearing kit. They are sold to fit custom wheels and come complete with the spacer that fits between the bearings. That provides the dimension, allowing for suitable running clearance, for boring the hub. My local Yamaha dealer race prepares bikes and did that for me.

That way you can use your 1" axle and spacers etc. Someone with a later Sporty that has 25mm bearings can do much the same. Hope that helps!
