I've recently changed oil and oil filter in my '06 883xl. Bike was dry before oil change and now it keeps spilling oil on oil cap (under the seat on the right side). There is always a big amout of oil at the bottom of the bike (probably all from oil cap) and it's drippin' all the time especially if bike is hot. First I thought that I've put too much oil in it so it's rejecting the excess. I've put exactly 3.0 litres (3.17qts) although I've red somewhere it receives 2.65 litres (2.8qts) , so I've thought it will stop leaking once it rejects the excess oil, but now, after 500 miles, the dipstick is between the lowest level and the middle but it still leaks (it was almost on the highest level after the oil change). I'm waiting it to comes to the lowest level to add more oil (but I hope I'll not have to ) Help!!
I hope you are checking the hot oil level and not cold.Oh and the bike needs to be upright not on the jiffy stand. On the jiffy stand it will read lower.Cold it will read lower. My guess is you are overfull.

No re-read your owners manual, you check it while it's sittin on the jiffy stand.
When I first had my sporty, 2004 883c, I did not tighten the oil fill cap completely and it leaked like crazy out of it. Make sure you tighten it all the way. Mine was very tight so I thought it was sealed, but it still required a bit more turning to seal it.

The OP stated that he has an 06 883xl.
For all 2004 and later Sporties, the oil level is checked ON THE JIFFY STAND.
Yep, on the stand and from what he said about between the lowest level and the middle I would go with either the o-ring, not getting the cap seated properly or popping it open with the leg/seat while riding. Sounds like a good time to get the temp gauge dipstick.
