Default Nightster MPG

I am new to this forum and new to Harleys. I recently bought an 09 Nightster. I have noticed that i am barely getting 100 miles on my tank. Now i know the first response is that I'm riding too hard. Well I'm not. But let it be known, Im about 225 lbs and i know the 42 mpg for street is on a 180 lb rider. Will this make that big of a difference. Also....When i shift it "clunks" fairly loud....Is this normal, or am i possibly doing something wrong.... Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated... 2009 HD Nightster, Custom Matte Black Paint w/ Pinstriping....and more to follow....

+1. Miles to tank don't really mean anything. Its the miles per gallon that matter. Low to mid 40sMPG is average for my stage 1 nightster. The clunky transmission sound is also normal

My 09 gets between 50 and 55 mpg and I weigh 180lbs. Even though the tank is 3.3, I've never been able to put much more than 2.3 or 2.4 gallons in it. I guess the air cavity up top is the other gallon. I can make 130 miles per tank, but haven't tried to go any further.

I'm an even 200 lbs. and can get anywhere between 80-120 miles depending on how long I decide to wait before I fill up. If I'm riding pretty hard I'll get about 80mpg. The tranny noise is normal mine is loud too nothing wrong there. Enjoy the ride you can ride that bike like a bat out of hell through twisties if you raise the suspension a bit and have the skill combined with the will.

I average 45-47 MPG on my stage 1 Nightster. I fill up at 100 miles which is about 2.5 gal. One time I let it run empty and maxed at 130 but then I was pushing it to the gas station. I will not let it go past 120 now.
