Default Have you regreted getting your sportster and not something else?

kind of an odd question i am sure but with talking to a few people that have had Harleys for quite a while and telling them that that is what im looking at getting i have had a bunch of them tell me not to get one and to get something else that is bigger. all of them have said that the bigger bikes are much better for longer rides and that the sportsters are not that comfortable on long rides and so on.
so have any of you regreted getting your sportster and not a bigger bike?
i like the soze of the sportys since im not a big guy and have rod big bikes before and they were a little bulkey for me it seemed so i was jsut courious and wanted to ask some of you all that have them

No regrets. However, it all depends what you want out of a bike. Sporty's can be made reasonably comfortable. You can ride them anywhere you want. Anytime. No limits. I currently have 10,338 miles since I got my current one 5 mos. ago, and they aren't all local miles. Ride on.

Yes. I got it because it was a cheap Harley, not because of any particular love for the model. Once my wife started to ride with me it just wasn't big enough to get the job done and I had to trade up. I'd have been better off from a financial standpoint by going straight to the big twin.

No regrets here. Given the financial resources I'd like to add a couple of bikes to the garage but I don't anticipate getting rid of the Sporty.

Short answer: No

Long answer: Sure, sometimes when I see other bigger bikes, I think about how much fun it would be to have one of those too. Currently those are the Vrod Muscle and the new Wide Glide. Then I go for a ride on my 883, and it reminds me exactly why I love riding it, and don't NEED a bigger motorcycle, I WANT one. Then I fill up and calculate, and when mileage comes in 60+mpg, I'm even happier I have that old Sportster. Won't even think about something different until I have the title to my truck in '12, which is fine because the bigger ones I'm looking and drooling over now new will be low mile used ones at a reasonable price then.

nope, I got 'something else' (dyna) almost 2 years after my sportie (first harley) but can't let go of the sportster. I'll probably sell the dyna some day but not the sportster. Definetely needs a 883->1250 tough.

cheers

I got what I could afford at the time, fun but regrettable at the same time. After 36k miles I still cannot wait to get something bigger, more comfortable and practical for my style of riding expecially with the Mrs. and to be able to travel. Have enjoyed it for the most part I guess and its fun to mod. and work on. If I had it to do over I'd have purchased a used Dyna maybe instead but my preference now is either a RK or Eglide. Will probably put another 20k miles on the old sporty nonetheless but not by choice.

If I was looking for something to go on long trips with then yeah I may have considered another bike other than the sporty. But that's not what I wanted a bike for and i'm perfectly happy with mine
