Default 1983 Harley Davidson XLS 1000 Roadster

I am looking at purchasing a Harley and looking at this model. Can someone please give me info on it. I have heard the good the bad and the ugly about this bike. So help me out!!!

Man, in Harley's Own Videos they say straight up there really wasn't a reliable harley prior to either 85 or 86 so you can take that for what it is worth.

'83 was a good year for Ironhead Sportsters - I've ridden one for the last 20 years. It's the last year for the dual disc on the front, has a reliable electronic ignition, good carb, stiff frame, and the best generator Harley ever used. Assuming you're looking at a cared-for largely stock bike, it should be pretty reliable. If it's been abused, customized, and "upgraded" with things like a different carb and points ignition, I'd steer clear. Here's what it should look like...
