I have an 06 Monster S2r1000. Can not say enough great things about it. Powerful, reliable, 2V Ltwin sounds awesome, and it handles like its on rails. Personally I like the style of the earlier classically styled monsters, but all are way coool. I guess the only drawback would be IMHO these are not the most comfortable for long hauls. As well, aftermarket parts are WAY expensive....Especially compared to Harley's (try 3k for full exhaust).

thanks. i found a couple really nice sportclassic 1000s including ltd editions. not close enough for me to go and test ride.
i wonder why ducati doesn't sell the sportclassic 1000s anymore...low volume? the ducati site shows $1500-$2000 for carbon exhausts...as much as cars.

I wonder myself why Ducati stopped selling the sport 1000's? A buddy of mine had one (crashed) and it was a sweet ride. They still offer the GT1000 which is essentially the same but more emphasis on comfort over sport.
$1500-2000 for exhaust, that doesent even include the ECU that you need to run right. My own experience was $1100 for slip ons, $400 for mid pipe, $550 for reflashed ECU, $100 for open airbox and 4 hours labor to get it tuned. In my opinion Ducati charges this exuberant amount because they know people will pay. I debated for years, putting it off because of the price, finally giving in. The noise my Duc makes now is 100% intoxicating now.
I guess you can say its the price you pay for a S**T eating grin!!

^^^ just checked the specs on google. very nice. do you have couple pics of your bike to post? would love to see it.
was supposed to go test ride a brand new 696 last saturday but got tied up with family things. wanted to see how it feels since i've never been on one before. i prefer 796 as a tweener between the monster ends. monster 1000 is too much bike for me. among 6 cars and 2 bikes, i wouldn't have time to ride.
love my '10 iron and wouldn't trade it for anything. it's simply just cool. takes a while to get up to 85mph like i did on sunday though ;-) steady as hell on the freeway at that speed with a slight head wind too. given it's so heavy yet sits so low, i wouldn't have it any other way. no way my 125lbs frame and 5'6" height would be able to handle if otherwise.

I would love a Monster 796 as a 2nd bike. My local HD dealer just became a HD/Ducati dealer which I think is pretty cool!
They new Diavel cruiser looks real interesting too: 162hp, with 94lb/ft of torque. There’s a slipper clutch to prevent rear-wheel lockup. Suspension is fully adjustable front and rear. The front brakes are 4-piston Brembo Monoblocs, and ABS is standard. At 456lb it's lighter than a Sportster.

Yeah, I think the Diavel will play well is the V-Rod arena. Ducati faithful might not like it but it looks pretty badass IMO
