Default Tank mod...LOTS OF PICS

I've posted pics of this in someone else's thread but I thought I'd post it up here to show the progress.

Trying to come up with a tank for my XLH that I haven't seen around here already turned out to be impossible so I'm modding a 2003 Heritage Classic tank.

Here's what I started with

Cut 5.5" from the center

Tacked the sides together

There was a healthy dent in the right side so while the halves were separated I hammered it back out

Here it is next to another tank the original size

Drilled a 2" hole where I want the tunnel to begin and end

Scuffed the bottom for a cut line. I'm going to flat bottom the tank for more volume

This was supposed to be a video of me cutting the tunnel out but my buddy Drunk Roger could only figure out one button on the camera

Fitted on the bike

I'm going to make a round brake to bend the tunnel so here's where I stopped. Really happy with it so far. It's a little over 4 gallons.

Thanks for looking!

Looks like a ****-ton of work. I think I'd be scared FOREVER that the tank will end up leaking one day. Otherwise - Looks Awesome!

Thanks.

It'll be fine. I've been sectioning fuel tanks for custom automotive for years and I've been making fuel cells and air tanks for about 5 years or so now. Never had a problem. I'll pressure test it & all that jazz.

Looks good but I'm not a fan of the dual gas caps that close together.

Not sold on the dual gas caps, but the shape is fantastic. Good blend between the peanut and 4.5 gallon shapes.
