has anyone managed to do this without the adapter? There's a video on youtube of a guy doing it without the adapter but I can't figure out how he got it done. Check it out:

I ordered a bracket (scratch-n-dent, but no scratches) from J&P and can't return it.

The tech said it would fit my engine but it doesn't. Must fit a '92 or '96 and up.

Now I need to buy another bracket and sell this one but everything was looking good and I did find a paper replacement filter at AZone.

Looks like that one is for a big twin. The Sportster bracket's sides don't match.

When I asked the tech on J&P he said it was for my model yr.

Well I ordered the right one and this one is for:

Mikuni HSR42/45 cabs only. 88-2006.
Nothing wrong w/it.
ebay or here 15 bucks +6 bucks shipping if it will fit in the flat rate box.

So hopefully next Thursday afternoon it will be installed.

Thanks,
Jim

Default Reason for bracket?

I already did this mod, looks great! I left mine chrome to give my all black bike some pop. Also, I ordered a set of breather bolts from DK Customs and they are being shipped right now (I hope). I was going go build my own breather bolts but figured with all that time, labor, and searching for parts.. $39 is just about how much I would sell it for if I made my own. There are other "versions" of the breather bolts and from what i could tell, the other versions have a more spaced out mesh grill only on the outside while the DK Customs breather bolts have 2 tighter mesh grills surrounding the filter.

All in all.. great/simple project.. but now that I think about it.. Did I REALLY need the bracket?

My bike is a 2014 Iron 883

Also, if I were to buy an intake, I suggest the DK Customs. TBH, I've been looking at their involvement in this forum, along with their prices and custom parts and I am shocked to see how honest these guys are. Even their intake kit, it simple, WAAAY cheaper than the competitors and priced appropriately and comes with everything you need. With respect to all the other brands, I just think DK Customs keeps it real.

Ok installed mine but now I have to adjust the carb.

Screwed in the adjuster and it stumbled, then screwed it out to here it was (it was running rich).

I used a hand held tac w/digital RPM but it is for a car.
Not sure if a bike needs a different tac but it would read 1520/1560 then jump to 1430 and the idle is set low and sounds like 500 ??
I used the old skinny plug wire on the front cylinder because the SE wires would let the tac read out.

Anyway, I road the bike till it was hot and twisted the throttle and it stumbles some until I let off the throttle but noting to bad.

So, question, do I need to screw in the mixture adjuster or out a little and just go from there?
I'm thinking like my Jeep carbs I need to screw it in some but again, I don't know a lot about bikes.

Thanks for the help,
Jim
