Default Little more work on my leaf spring Sportster (pics)

...but nothing regarding the suspension...

I decided to use one of the gas tanks I narrowed.

Incase you haven't seen it this is how it started

It was a 2003 Heritage Classic tank (one of those "special" 100th anniversary ones lol)

I took 5.5" out of the middle.

Then tacked it back together

Cut out the tunnel and removed the bottom

Ended up needing to remove another inch from the bottom to clear the rocker boxes

At that point I was ready for a tunnel. There's a guy on Youtube that made a sheet metal brake to bend tunnels so I copied his basic design with a few changes to better fit my garage.

And here's the brake I built

Rolled a piece of 16 gauge sheet metal

Saddled my tank on it to mark the cut line

Here it is cut out & tacked in

And here it is fitted on the bike

I still have alot of work to do to the tank & bike but I wanted to share some progress.

Thanks!

Misleading title, thought I was going to see some creation of a cool leaf spring set up and it's a gas tank thread.

Sorry to disappoint you but it's not misleading. You just misunderstood. I have quite a few Sportsters and it's easier to reference them by their unique characteristics...like this one. It has front & rear leaf springs. Here's a pic for those who need to see that. Maybe it won't be such a let down now! lol

Thanks! I can swap out the rollers with angle iron to make it a traditional brake too.
