Default Neutral issues

Hi guys,
I live in Barbados and am a proud owner of a 2006 1200 custom.
about 6 months ago I was involved in an accident and slightly bent my forward control gear shifter.
that has been sorted out.
I now find that when I'm riding the bike and it's all warmed up,I sometimes have difficulty going into neutral at a stop and also every now and then when I pull in the clutch lever fully, the bike still wants to move forward.
Any ideas what the problem could be?
Appreciate any help.
By the way,the bike was parked for 6 months because I couldn't ride after the accident.

Congratulations on your first post on HDF, welcome to the forum. Hope you were not seriously injured and that you have recovered fully.

Do you have a factory Harley Davidson Service Manual? If not it would be a good idea to purchase one if you are going to do your own work and so that you are familiar with the different parts & components of your motorcycle.

My first thought on your issue would be to adjust the clutch in accordance with the Harley Davidson Service Manual, see if it corrects the issue and then report back.

Best Regards.

Adjust your clutch cable and that might fix it. Watch a youtube video if necessary if you are unsure.

Hi and welcome . Both of the symptoms you describe suggest that your clutch Spring Plate is in the process of disintegrating . A common problem that can usually be fixed if it's caught in time . See Extra Plate Clutch kit sticky thread on here .

Default probably time for service

I agree that it's probably time to take a look at your clutch adjustment and your clutch lever adjustment - these two adjustments should be done every time you do an oil change. I recently replaced my clutch pack with the screaming eagle clutch pack and it was easier than I thought it would be. The clutch write up on here was very helpful and inspired me to tackle the job.

How many miles on your bike? Did you check/change oils on bike, after accident? Did the clutch cable get damaged?

That video should help you out. Sounds to me like the clutch cable just needs to be adjusted. There's always a remote chance the clutch pack itself needs to be replaced and just so happened to go bad around the time of your accident. Hope you didn't get banged up too bad, and props for getting back out there!

Great info,thank you all.
I broke my arm in 2 places and had to have surgery and I'm on the mend now. (Able to ride bike).
I did adjust both the clutch in the primary and at the lever.
The bike has 31000 miles on it and she's always serviced on a regular basis.
I was thinking maybe if I change the primary oil, that may help.I t was changed less than 5000 miles ago and I use Mobil 1 v.twin synthetic 20/50.
I think you maybe right on the rivet plate as I had the bike since 15000 miles and don't know if the clutch was ever changed.

I wouldn't worry about the disintegrating clutch till after 35,000 miles. Just adjust it.
