don't need to drop $700 at the HD dealership for a re-map or $400 for a programmer.
pretty sure the dealer remaps are anywhere between 100-200$ depending on the dealer and my pcIII was only 225$ at the time i bought my bike (jus sayin) but point taken.
quick question, i have the vied, and ive noticed when people talk about the install, they never ground them. Does anyone ground their vied/xied, or is it not needed on the sportsters?
I don't think there is a reason to ground them at all, they are just basically an extension of the factory cables, there isn't a seperate power source inside that would need grounding, not that I know of anyways.
When I went to ask the service department about a "tune" for the bike after pipes and intake, they quoted $205. I didn't inquire further as to what they do for a "tune." Is this them plugging into my computer a dropping a pre-mapped tune onto my PCM or them actually doing something else?
The tune consists of the dealer connecting to your ECM and flashing a new map to it. Most dealers are in the $100 or a little more range.
The XieD is just an inline plug in that increases the resistance in the circuit thus fooling the ECM into thinking the cylinder needs more fuel, if its grounded it wont work.
im a noob with this stuff.....i have v&h pipes now ,iron 883, if i add these will i be able to add an intake as well w/o running to lean? i would still check my plugs but this would be great since funds are low and i want to put my intake on....
I just placed my order for the X14ieD, I have the same stumble problem that Osco described and have only installed a K&N filter, so I hope this will help with smoothing this out.
Unless the dealer is going to dyno the bike along with the new map(which i would doubt will happen) IMO $200+ is too much, but they will charge whatever the customer will pay.
Cheap way is to monitor your plugs, white is bad(hot), copper/light tan is best, black sooty too rich.
